Open Enrollment Period (OEP)
What Is the Open Enrollment Period?
The Open Enrollment Period (OEP) runs from January 1 to March 31 each year. It’s specifically for people already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan.
During OEP, you can:
- Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan
- Drop your Medicare Advantage Plan and return to Original Medicare
- Add a standalone Part D Prescription Drug Plan (if you return to Original Medicare)
Why OEP Matters
This period is valuable if you realized your Medicare Advantage Plan isn’t meeting your needs. Whether your doctor isn’t in-network, your prescriptions aren’t covered affordably, or you just want a different plan — OEP gives you a second chance.
